Definition Of Shape:

Shape is an area enclosed by a line, this could be an outline or an area shaded in. Shapes can be either geometric (circles, squares, triangles) or irregular which are not standard shapes. 

Shapes created in the spaces between the shapes are known as negative space.

Geometric shapes-

Irregular Shapes-

In this image you can see how the shape, a star, is being made out of peoples hands. The individual's hands are shapes themselves,which are then used to create another shape- this makes the image extra interesting. 

In this image the pyramid tops are repeated and structured. This image shows shape well as you can see how repeated shapes can form a pattern and create an organised, structured appearance. 

My own definition of shape: how something appears to the eye, shapes can be various sizes.
