Low Key Lighting - Image Bank

I like this image as you cannot see the face of the individual, only the outline which allows us to gather that the individual is a male. This image creates ambiguity and this inspires me to try this in my photographs.

This photograph is interesting as it creates low key lighting on an animal not a human. The lighting helps create a masculine appearance to the image, where as high key lighting creates a more feminin appearance. The lighting helps create a menacing ambiance which adds to the atmosphere of the image, enhancing the cats stare.

The above image is interesting as the image is of a female, where usually high key lighting is used; however, low key lighting is used in this image, meaning that you cannot see half of the females face, this creates a mysterious atmosphere.

The above image creates ambiguity as you can only see half of the mans face. The man in the image is looking downwards, appearing as though he is disappointed. This leads us to question as to why he may possibly be feeling this way. I would like to try and recreate this mood in some of my images.

This photograph is of a female, again you can only see half of her face, and she is looking directly at the camera, in contrast with the images above whereby the subjects are not looking into the camera. She is also holding something over her head, suggesting she is hiding from something.

This image contrasts the ones above it as it is of several people, not just one person. The lighting hits all their faces the same, apart from the first and last individuals, where the first individual's face is darker than the last individuals.

Image Manipulation - Image Bank

I like this image, as it takes an everyday activity and makes it unique. It's also an interesting image as the elephant is actually winning the race, when we'd assume that it would be last- this adds to the abstract qualities of this image. The colours in this image also work well together as the dusty browns contrast with the clear blue sky.

This image makes the sea of houses below, almost appear as a carpet, or a wave, rising up into the air. I would like to create something similar to this; however, I do not know how I would photograph a town from that high in the sky.

This image is inspiriting as it takes an ordinary human, and makes then appear unnatural. It almost takes the literal meaning of 'knot in my stomach' and makes it a reality. I could attempt to recreate this image in the studio.

This image is strange as the mans face appears to be a book, with numerous pages. This image is extremely unique and abstract, which makes it interesting and easy to view. The muted colours in the image also work effectively.

This image is inspiring as it's ironic and humorous, as the watermelon actually has become a 'water' melon, with a fish in it too, again adding to the humour.

This image is abstract, as you'd assume the glass would break and not the hammer, it's  portraying a role reverse.

Portraiture Image Bank

I like this image as it appears to have a green tint over the whole image. The girls eyes and the background seem to be saturated and create a colourful appearance as a whole of the image. The green works well with her blonde hair, they compliment each other nicely. The girl obtains almost an expression of confusion and this is the emotion captured in the image overall.

This image is photographed extremely close to the mans face, it has a darker contrast and highlights the tone and texture of his face. In this image the man appears to hold a sad/lonely expression, this allows sympathy to surface in the viewer. He is also looking away from the camera, when i shoot i will take some images where the person is looking away, and into the camera.

I like this image as due to it being in black and white you can see the tone and texture of the woman's face, in her wrinkles. A rough texture is created due to the woman's consistency of her skin. The background is blurred which allows the viewer to focus solely on her face. The woman looks sad, almost as if she's asking for help.

This image shows the boys skin to be smooth and soft, the lighting compliments this as it's soft- and not harsh. This is a simple portrait image, however the boy appears to be looking away from the camera, and not in it. Furthermore, the boy has a deadpan expression on his face, implying there's no emotion present.

I like this image of the girl as the gritty lighting shows the contrast in the colours and shadows of her face. Due to her hair being messy, it adds texture to the image. The girl appears to be angry, as her eyes are glaring down the camera lens. This is a close up of the girls head, with barely her shoulders in the image i would like to create an image like this when i shoot. If I wanted to achieve a blurred background like this image, the I would set a lower aperture (e.g. 2.8).

In this image the woman's freckles are enhanced due top the lighting shining directly on her face. Additionally, she's looking up into the camera lens and not directly, straight on. This image has a lot of tone and texture to it. In addition her collar bones are in the dark, which again highlights and emphasises her face.

Joiners Image Bank

I like this image as it paints London in a different light. The red bus on the left hand side catches your eye, in comparison to the dull and gloomy background. It's evident that the images are all taken at the same moment in the day. I would like to recreate an image like this in London, however London is usually busy and would be hard to create a joiner as the images would all be different due to the various people moving around in the images, I do not think it'd fit together well overall.

I like this image as it exposes various angles of the face. This allows you to gain almost a 360 view of the mans face, and his various expressions within this. All of the individual images fit together effectively. I would like to try and recreate this image by photographing an individual at various angles, with them holding a variety of expressions.

I like this image of the sky as clouds are random naturally, therefore the joiners compliment this as they make the image appear more abstract. The tree in the bottom right corner gives you perspective over the whole image. You can see that these photographs are taken at the same time during the day, in one of my images I could recreate this but photographing the images at various times during the day, to show change in one photograph.

This is a different type of image associated with joiners, as the shape of the image itself is made from the boxes. This is an interesting image as the random splurges of colour make it more captivating. The tree is weathered and old, it also has no leaves which allows us to infer it's in the autumn/winter season. The images that are placed together are organised and all of the same size, I would like to attempt to recreate this in my joiners.

This image appears extremely abstract, due to the lines not being linear and instead being random, and not quite fitting together perfectly. This interests me as it almost adds another dimension to the image, and makes you question what the photograph is actually of as a whole. The black lines contrast well with the blue sky.

This image appears to be creepy due to the stairs being random and unorganised. This creates a sense of the unknown as the stairs obtain no pattern or structure. In addition, this image appears to be layered as the stairs overlap, when they're stereotypically meant to be straight and organised.

Depth Image Bank

Depth Image Bank:

I like this image as the lines on the road are leading lines, therefore they carry your eye into the distance to the point of interest.

I like this image as the rock in the foreground is in focus, however the moutons and trees in he background are blurred, therefore it creates depth as you can see the trees/moutains are far away, in comparison to the rock.
This image creates depth has the lights in the background are blurred, therefore it enhances the depth component of the image. The first green light bulb is clearly in focus, allowing your eyes to understand how the others trail away further in the background.

This image shows shallow depth as the cats nose is close to the camera. The cats eyes have been blurred, allowing you to see how they're further away than its nose.
This image shows wide depth as the whole image is in focus. the walls help create the depth as you can see how they get smaller the further away they are.

The pathway is a leading line in itself, with further leading lines on it (planks of wood), this again creates a wide depth as the whole image is in focus. The end of the pier is the point of interest, as this is what your eyes focus on.

Motion Image Bank

I like this image as although you cannot see the cars you can infer this from the image. The blurry lights create almost a calm effect as the lights are not random they follow a smooth, curve line. This would be taken on a high shutter speed.

I like this image as the teddy bear is in focus, but the background is blurred. The photographer would have focused on the bear whilst not worrying about the background to get this effect. This expresses movement as we can see the bear is stationary on an object which is moving. The shutter speed would have been slow for this image, due to the blurred background.

I like this image as you can see the various stages of movement. This allows you to explore the way in which the ballerina would have moved. The blurred edges help you t o see that the woman is moving as it's not completely clear.

In this image i like the way the movement of where the crayon has exploded is captured, and you can see the pathway where the bullet has taken.

In this image i like how the previous movement is captured in the waves of the red. This appears as the person has fallen from the sky and the waves of colour capture their past pathway they took.

I like this image as the background is blurred whilst the skate board and shoe (the objects which are causing the movement) are in focus. I also like how the other objects in the background are also captured. The shutter speed would have been slow for this image, due to the blurred background.

Reflection Image Bank

Reflection Image Bank:

I like this image as the flamingos appear as if they're standing upside down in their reflections. In this image the water is extremely still, which shows a crisp reflection of the birds, appearing almost as if a mirror is underneath them- not water. I will attempt to recreate this image when i shoot by attempting to take an image of objects reflecting in still water.

I like this image as it shows how moving, chaotic water still can reflect objects well. The water in this image reflects the flower slightly distorted; whereas in the image of the flamingos they're reflected precisely. This inspires me to take an image whereby the reflection distorts the original image.

This image is a slightly abstract representation of reflection. I like it as it makes the viewer question how this image was taken, therefore i believe it's more than merely a photograph as it makes you think. I would like to recreate an image like this in the studio as it would be easier to control the mirrors and lighting.

This image shows how you can see reflection in everyday life, as it appears as though the cat is on a shiny work top table, stalking its prey. I like this image as it gives you a perception of what the cats prey would see from underneath him, once the cat pounces. I would like to recreate this image however i believe it'd be very hard as we do not have resources to obtain animals.

I like this image as the reflection is distorted due to the curved shape of the bubble, the colours are also saturated due to the liquid used to create the bubble itself.

I like this image as although the people are reflected into the puddle you cannot see them in the real image above the shoes, you can only see their shoes. I would like to re-create this when i shoot, however i believe it may be edited.

Shape Image Bank

Shape Image Bank:

The shapes in this image are geometric, not irregular. They follow a structured pattern and all look the same. The hexagons in this image are also symmetrical. This inspires me to photograph geometrical shapes when i go and shoot.

This photograph shows how nature obtains more irregular shapes than man-made geometric objects. This image is interesting as it doesn't obtain structured shapes, merely free ones- however they do all follow a pattern. This image has inspired me to photograph nature and capture more irregular shapes as well as geometrical ones.

The spiral appeal of this image draws your eye in to the top. This is using the shape of the stairs (the linear poles) to create another shape in itself (the spiral.) I believe when i shoot i could take an image like this of some stairs somewhere and incorporate the shapes on the stairs to create further shapes.

Irregular and geometric shapes are used in this image. The wheels of the bikes of geometric and the handle bars are irregular. This image portrays how you can used geometric and irregular shapes together, when i'm shooting i'll attempt to photograph an image which obtains irregular and geometric shapes together.

This image is interesting as the edges of the buildings create a shape in the sky. The shape created in the sky is an irregular shape. I like how the height of the buildings almost add to the depth of the shape, as you can see how the windows get smaller the higher up they go.

This image allows you to see how smaller shapes create a larger shape. The smaller shapes also point towards a larger circle in the middle, allowing you to focus on the centre of the image and the sun in the edge of the circle.

Tone Image Bank

Tone Image Bank:

I like this image as it's not completely black and white, it has a slight yellow tinge to it. The shadows of the trees on the floor create a darker tone in comparison to the lighter grey of the road. The middle of the image has a feminine appeal to it as it's lighter, whereas the background and foreground are darker creating a more masculine feel, i will try and incorporate this into my own images.

I like this image as the focus point is on the bit with the most tone (bottle tops) the bottle tops have a distinct contrast of the grey and white. The background is blurred however we can still see there's  tone as there's a mixture of black, white and grey. I'll try and use a focus point like this when i shoot.

I like this image as the highlight is clear on each of the balls, although the image is in black and white we can still see the difference in the colour of the balls. There's shadows around each of the balls which suggests the light source is behind the image. When i shoot my images i will take into consideration the angle of the light, i may also try and find a shiny surface in which i could photograph as it makes the image more interesting because the light reflects easily off the surface.

The water helps reflect the trees in this image, the tone is lighter in the background, than the foreground which gives the image more depth. The masculinity of the trees (as they're darker) contrasts with the femininity of the sky as it's lighter; this allows the trees to stand out and be crisp as the background is so light, this is a distinct change in tone.

This image has a slightly morose appeal to it due to the dark skies almost looming over the lighter shade houses below, this creates an extremely masculine appeal. I like the landscape overall as the different shades of bricks create a distinct tone contrast. The water running through the centre of the image is darker on the edges than in the middle, here we can see how the houses are reflected at the edge of the water into the water.

This image represents tone well as the dark top left hand of the image contrasts the lighter part of the lower image. This makes you believe that the lion may be hiding under something, due to the shadow being behind him. This image differs from the other images I've chosen as this image is in colour, whereas the others are in black and white.
